The Kawainui-Hamakua Marsh Complex on Oahu is a Ramsar Wetland which is defined as a Wetland of International Importance). Restoration to create ponds in the southern portion of Kawainui Marsh was to create a habitat for four endangered Hawaiian waterbirds: Hawaiian Stilt, Moorhen, Coot and Koloa: http://hbmpweb.pbrc.hawaii.edu/dlnr/projects/sanctuaries/kawainui.
